Finding My Way: When Business Meets the Soul

Have you ever felt caught between the person the world said you should be and the person you know you are deep down? I've been there and sometimes still find myself there.

Just the other week I found myself knee-deep in business decisions.

We all know starting a business isn't a cakewalk. And, thanks to social media, we're bombarded by the so-called โ€œexpertsโ€ telling us the "right" path to success.

I got caught up in it. I thought, โ€œI have to tick all these boxes to be successful.โ€

So I took a weekend off from family obligations, hoping to โ€œget it all done.โ€

Spoiler alert: I achieved zilch.

I was overwhelmed, and felt like if I couldn't do everything - and my dream of this business would remain just a dream. I shut down and frankly got a little sad and disappointed.

One morning I settled in my favorite spot on the back porch, my soul-soothing space. With a journal, my trusty pen, and a cup of coffee, I listened to nature's whispers. I breathed deep and poured my feelings onto the page:

  • What really works for me?

  • How can I shape my business so it nourishes me โ€“ mentally, physically, and emotionally?

  • Must I buy into the constant hustle?

For me, the answer was loud and clear: "Nope!"

Iโ€™m doing this MY way, with MY boundaries.

So, what are these boundaries?

  1. Natural Flow - I let creativity gently find its place in my life.

  2. Pace - I move at a rhythm that lets me understand and deal with my emotions (after all, the entrepreneurial journey is quite the rollercoaster).

  3. Deep Authenticity - I create from a place that cherishes the deep, raw humanness in me and others. No to-do list chains here.

  4. Safe Sharing - I voice my truths in ways that resonate with me.

I've printed these and placed them near my workspace. They're my compass, ensuring that my business decisions align with my heart and soul.

Next time you feel swamped by choices or that daunting to-do list, take a moment. Ask yourself:

  • What truly works for me?

  • How can I ensure my well-being in this process?

  • Deep breath in, and out โ€“ now, what genuinely feels right?

Remember, it's your journey. Own it!
